| Compaq has been a leader in the computer industry for decades. Compaq was responsible for the precursor to the modern laptop, the Compaq Portable. Later, the company was acquired by HP, but the Compaq name remains as a testament to Compaq's history of innovation and technological breakthroughs.
Compaq laptop AC adapters consist of two major components. First is the transformer, which converts the AC current coming from the wall outlet into DC current and passes this current onto the laptop at the correct voltage. Second, is the power cord, which connects the AC Adapter to the wall outlet to receive the AC current. The power cord is removable on most laptop models in order to make the AC adapter more portable. The tip of the Compaq AC adapter is specifically engineered to be unique to only the models it is compatible with. For example, one AC adapter will have a 4.8 mm tip while another will have a 5.5 mm tip. This is to keep users from mistakenly inserting the wrong adapter, which could damage the laptop.
Compaq laptop AC adapters have a variety of built-in features that might not be readily apparent, but are no less important to the safety and health of the laptop. Most laptop AC adapters are built of rugged plastic or other solid materials to resist damage if dropped or stepped on. They also include protection against voltage spikes or short circuits. In most cases, spikes and short circuits cause the AC adapter to shut down output power, protecting the laptop from damage. Modern Compaq laptop and notebook AC adapters are also protected against high temperatures, and will shut down if their temperature gets too high, avoiding damage to the AC adapter or other equipment. |
