| Dell laptop LCD screens come in a wide range of sizes and resolutions. From the Dell Mini's 8.9" screen to the Dell XPS M2010's 20.1" screens, Dell laptops run the gamut of screen sizes. LCD screen resolutions are mainly dictated by screen size. In the case of Dell laptops, screen resolutions range from 1024 x 600 WSVGA to 1680 x 1050 SXGA+.
Modern Dell laptop LCD screens use a technology called TrueLife, which is somewhat of a combination of glossy and matte technology. TrueLife uses a glossy screen, which is beneficial due to its higher contrast, more vibrant colors, and deeper blacks. Glossy screens tend to be more prone to reflections, especially in bright areas, which can cause eye strain for the user. Dell's TrueLife technology uses a coating on the screen which reduces reflections, similar to a matte screen, but keeps the benefits of the glossy screen, representing the best of both worlds.
Most Dell laptop LCD screens use a liquid crystal display with a TFT active matrix, which handles the switching of colors for the liquid crystals. Dell screens also use a CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) as a backlight, as the crystals themselves need light to be shown through them in order to display an image on the screen.
Before purchasing a replacement laptop LCD screen, be careful to find one that matches your laptop model exactly. Although some laptop parts may appear to be compatible based on size and resolution, manufacturing differences may make them incompatible with your laptop. If you do not have the technical skills to perform the laptop LCD repair, you can use our laptop repair service to have a certified technician repair your laptop. |
