Acer laptop and notebook batteries represent the height of technology, offering long battery life, energy efficiency, and rapid charging times.
Most Acer laptop and notebook batteries are lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion batteries are particularly suited for portable use because they have the best energy-to-weight ratio of the different types of battery, meaning they provide the most power for the lowest weight, a crucial aspect in any portable device. Lithium ion batteries also have no "memory effect", in which some types of batteries may lose some of their capacity if not fully discharged and recharged on a regular schedule.
One example of Acer's technological advances is the Aspire 5810 Timeline notebook. This notebook includes a six-cell lithium ion laptop battery. While the battery and its technologies are important, Acer has made greater strides in its battery use and life by including power-saving features in the hardware and software of the laptop itself. Acer includes a PowerSmart button on the laptop, which will lower power consumption while in PowerSmart mode. The PowerSmart mode affects both hardware and software to make power usage as efficient as possible. For example, the processor speed may be slowed down slightly to conserve power and heat, and thereby exhaust fans need to work less hard to keep up, reducing overall power consumption. Combining the 5810's highly efficient notebook battery with the technology advances of the PowerSmart mode results in up to 8 hours of battery life on a single charge.
