Acer laptop LCD screens are made from the finest materials and built to withstand the rigors of the road. Acer laptop LCD screens range in size from around 8.9" diagonally for its netbooks and ultraportable models to as high as 20.1" for its high-performance and desktop replacement models. Acer screens include resolutions ranging from 1024 x 600 up to 1680 x 1050 for its larger models.
Acer uses many different terms to refer to their laptop LCD screens, such as XGA and WXGA. XGA refers to a specific resolution, and WXGA represents a wider version of that resolution. When replacing a laptop LCD screen, it is important to ensure that you are buying the correct part for your specific model of laptop, as these terms often used for a wide number of models.
LCD (liquid crystal display) screens include liquid crystals which change color very quickly to display the information on the screen. The crystals themselves do not emit any light, so they must have light shown through them. Most of Acer’s laptop LCD screens use CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamps) for backlighting. Cold cathode is a technology similar to that used in neon signs. The cold cathode backlight shines through the liquid crystals in the screen, resulting in a bright, clear image for the viewer.
Some Acer laptop LCD screens include Acer’s CrystalBrite technology, which is a glossy screen that reduces many of the reflections without the need for a matte screen. This provides the clarity of a glossy screen while reducing some of the ambient light reflection that can make a glossy screen undesirable for some users. |
