| Dell's focus has always been on serving its customers by offering customization options to allow customers to choose a configuration that fits their needs. In recent years, Dell's sales have been driven more and more by laptops and notebooks, and their technological innovation and customization have continued in their laptop and notebook lines, and even into their laptop parts such as Dell laptop and notebook batteries.
Dell laptop batteries are generally lithium ion batteries, from 6 cells to 12 cells, depending on configuration. Lithium ion batteries are chosen by most manufacturers due to their high power-to-weight ratio, meaning they provide more power in a smaller, lighter package than previous technologies. They are also more efficient and have no "memory effect", a flaw in earlier technologies that resulted in lowered laptop battery capacity if the batteries were not discharged and recharged fully every few weeks.
Continuing the tradition of customization, there is customization even in the choice of Dell laptop batteries. Some laptop models feature a choice of battery, offering a higher WHr (watt hours) rating, which in turn provides longer battery life. Some laptops also offer the choice of a second battery, so that users can swap out a battery when running low on power. A few models offer a "battery slice", which is a long flat battery unit nearly the length of the laptop that can be plugged into the bottom of the laptop for an extremely long battery life of 7 or more hours. While the laptop battery slice adds significantly to the weight and bulk of the laptop when plugged in, the extra battery life may we a worthwhile tradeoff for some users.
Dell continues to be a leader in the computer industry, and shows no signs of stopping in the future. No doubt their innovation and customization will continue in the coming years. |
