Gateway laptop LCD screens incorporate liquid crystal displays which can change color at a very rapid rate to create an image. Color changing is handled by a TFT active matrix. The liquid crystals emit no light on their own, so a backlight is needed. Most Gateway laptop LCD screens use a CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) backlight, which shines through the liquid crystals and creates an image for display.
Modern Gateway laptop LCD screens incorporate what Gateway calls "edge-to-edge glass". The screen surface is a single piece of glass from edge to edge. This creates a sleek, integrated look to the laptop screen with no surrounding edges. Gateway LCD screens also incorporate Gateway's UltraBright technology, which includes a glossy screen treated with an anti-reflective layer to reduce reflections, and thus, eye strain for the user. While glossy screens are preferred by many for their vibrant colors and deep blacks, they are also more prone to reflections. Gateway's UltraBright technology retains the benefits of glossy screens while reducing the troublesome reflections.
Gateway laptop LCD screens range in size from 12.1" to 17". Resolutions vary by size, with Gateway's 17" laptops supporting a resolution of 1920 x 1200, referred to as WUXGA.
Though many Gateway LCD screens may seem similar in size and resolution, it is important to ensure a replacement screen is compatible with your specific laptop model, as small differences between similar models can make the screens incompatible with other models. |
