| The International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation is consistently and widely recognized as a leader in the computer industry. Recently, IBM’s PC division was purchased by Chinese manufacturer Lenovo. Lenovo actually holds the leading position for being the fastest growing market in the world. Through its alliance with IBM, Levono now is the 3rd largest supplier of PCs in the entire world.
Both IBM and Levono have increased their capabilities through working together in this way. They have been able to continue their development of new respective IBM laptops and laptop batteries and Levono laptops and laptop batteries to meet excellence standards in the industry.
Most IBM laptop batteries and Levono laptop batteries use lithium ion technology. Lithium ion is the preferred choice for laptops due to its high power to weight ratio, meaning it can provide more power in a smaller, lighter design than previous technologies. A newer technology, called lithium polymer, additionally allows for laptop batteries that can be formed into nearly any shape to accommodate the needs of a laptop’s design. With unique and customized battery designs, the computer can use the additional space to create greater processing power. It may also be able to decrease the weight of laptops in the future.
Lenovo laptop batteries range from 10.8 to 14.4 volts in power, and come in a variety of shapes and designs. Lenovo’s modern laptops and notebooks offer up to 9 hours of laptop battery life, which is significantly longer than many of its more average competitors. Many of Lenovo’s laptops also feature a "battery stretch" feature, which conserves power and lengthens battery life when turned on. Environmentally-conscious people as well as people simply interested in preserving the life of their batteries will take kindly to this feature.
Lenovo continues the tradition of innovation and reliability in its laptops and laptop parts that IBM has set from its earliest computer. While some were concerned when Lenovo acquired IBM’s trusted hardware division, those concerns seem to have been misplaced, as Lenovo continues to produce fast, reliable, and portable laptops and notebooks.
A final thought: IBM and Levono are pioneers in battery power in other areas in addition to computer technology, such as electric car battery development. With engineers and scientists working from different angles on lithium battery power, these companies may be able to share ideas between projects and sectors, where perhaps car battery research fuels a solution for improved IBM laptop batteries, along with Levono laptop batteries. |
