Laptop cooling fans are essential in maintaining the laptop computer in a functioning state. The natural by-product of heat produced by the technologies employed to run the processors, power units, and other laptop components. Laptops are especially susceptible to heat problems due to the compact space where all the components are assembled into and very little space for adequate air flow.

To combat the heat issues in laptop computers, manufacturers have designed and developed a wide range of cooling fans to fill the needs of the expansive variety of laptop computer designs and styles. Most laptop internal cooling fans are mounted on or next to heat sinks and are available in framed or frameless, depending on mounting requirements.

In addition to the main cooling fans, which generally cool the overall interior of the laptop, a laptop may include other fans such as a CPU (central processing unit) fan, which is attached to a heat-sink for cooling the processor itself. This is especially necessary on more powerful laptops that utilize faster and hotter processors. Laptops may also include a heat-sink and fan attached to the graphic processing unit which handles the graphics processing. These processors can also generate a lot of heat, hence the need for cooling.

Laptop cooling fans are becoming less noisy and more energy efficient due in large part to the advancement of manufacturing technologies in both the other critical components as well as the fans themselves.

As computing on the go is becoming more of a necessity than a novelty, laptops computers are being subjected to harsher work environments. To protect processors, motherboards and other operating components of laptop/notebook computers, a variety of laptop cooling fans, including both internal and external solutions, are available from manufacturers and retailers of laptop parts.
