| Apple is a leader in innovation in both technology and design. Its designs are frequently adopted and copied by other manufacturers, and its technologies are often at the forefront of the computer industry. Apple was largely responsible for the adoption of the USB interface, and was almost solely responsible for the adoption of the firewire interface.
Apple's dedication to innovation and design can be seen in all aspects of its laptops, even their laptop batteries. Sporting some of the slimmest case designs available, it is a wonder to behold how Apple is able to put so much power into a case so small, especially with the Macbook Pro. Apple laptop batteries are especially slim, as they must be for the laptop to retain its slim design.
In January 2009, Apple announced its new Macbook Pro 17" notebook, with a brand new battery design that boasts up to 8 hours of battery life and 1,000 recharges. While some compact netbooks approach a battery life of 8 hours, it was previously unheard of for a high-performance 17" notebook. These benefits did come at a cost, however, as the laptop battery was no longer removable, as it had been in previous models. This Apple laptop battery is made from lithium polymer, a necessary change, as Apple had to change the shape and format of the battery to accomplish these feats, and it was no longer possible to incorporate a compact, removable enclosure for the battery. This new Apple notebook battery design has later made its way into the rest of the Macbook Pro line of notebooks, and may eventually be incorporated into its consumer-focused Macbook line as well.
Apple's innovation and forward-thinking approach never fails to impress, and Apple is now leading the way in notebook battery technology as well. |
